TRAINING ANNOUNCEMENT

Chandler, AZ

August 30, 2011 - September 1, 2011

DESCRIPTION

Course will review pumps, piping, mechanical equipment, and electrical components commonly used in lift stations and provide an opportunity for attendees to work with this equipment during classroom exercises.  Common hydraulic problems are discussed and demonstrated including the effects of velocity, water hammer, and entrapped air.  Operating problems related to debris, grease, and odor control are examined. Jamie Quick of Lienberger & Associates will be teaching the class.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Identify common lift station types and equipment and piping/valve considerations
• Describe basic hydraulic considerations in lift station operations
• Apply systematic pump and control troubleshooting techniques
• Describe common operational problems and cost controls
• Review applicable codes, safety compliance, and emergency procedures

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This interactive and hands-on training course is for operators, wastewater managers, and engineering staff interested in an overview of lift station operations and troubleshooting.

COURSE LENGTH

The Lift Station Operations course is scheduled for 3 days, beginning at 8:00 am on August 30, 2011 and concluding at 5:00 pm on September 1, 2011.

CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS

Participants attending the entire course will receive 2.0 CEU’s.

COST

There is no cost to non-compacted/non-contracted Tribes and agencies within the Indian Health Service and Office of Environmental Health and Engineering.

LODGING AND REIMBURSEMENT TERMS

You may stay at the lodging of your choice and are responsible for making your own arrangements.  A block of rooms has been reserved until July 29, 2011 at the Windmill Suites of Chandler; 3535 W. Chandler Boulevard, Chandler, AZ 85226; telephone (480) 812-9600 or (800) 547-4747.  Specify that you are with the Indian Health Service - Lift Stations for Operators, Group Code 110829INDIAN, to receive the group rate of $81.00.  Tribal Operators within the Phoenix Area may be eligible for reimbursement of travel and per diem expenses.  Tribal Operators eligible for reimbursement will only be reimbursed if they attend the entire training and are confirmed.  Reimbursements and rates will be based on the federal guidelines.
